By Aaron Humes: Multiple international news sources have now confirmed that President of the United States Joe Biden, 79, has tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19.
According to the BBC, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has reported that the president is in isolation with “very mild symptoms” and plans to carry out his duties. He has been fully vaccinated (doing so on television) and double-boosted.
The White House added that President Biden will remain in isolation until he tests negative. He is taking the antiviral medicine Paxlovid and will be participating in meetings by telephone and Zoom.
First Lady Jill Biden is said to have tested negative while in Delaware, the BBC says.
Joe Biden joins former Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama on the list of COVID patients; Trump contracted COVID in the thick of his re-election campaign in 2020 which ended in Biden defeating him.
