Business process outsourcing sector looks to expand

By Aaron Humes: A Cabinet working group will be established to implement recommendations from stakeholders in the business process outsourcing industry (BPO) for its diversification.

The stakeholder meeting was held on May 26 and concerned the diversification of the industry into higher tier services.

Among the recommendations to be implemented is the preparation of a National Strategy to Develop Belize’s Global Digital Services Sector.

BPO’s have rapidly expanded as a source of employment and revenue in the last decade, hiring Belizeans to act as service providers for international firms and companies in areas such as customer service and sales that are not hosted in the company’s home country, hence “outsourcing”.
