By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National champions Verdes thrashed third-division Guatemalan Los Pumas from San Benito, Petén, Guatemala, 10-0 on Wednesday night at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen. That easy win was Verdes’ final preparation match before meeting Salvadoran club Platense in the Scotiabank Concacaf League next week.
Desmond Wade had a field day scoring five goals and Argentine Facundo Garnier hit a brace, Darrel Myvett, Paraguayan Luis Ibarra, and Jaylen Lennan scored one each.
Verdes’s manager Lorin Frazer said the team isn’t satisfied with the level of performance of Wednesday night’s opponents. He said they had been promised a highly competitive team like CSD Melchor who Verdes defeated 2-1 three weeks ago before traveling to Cancún, Mexico, for their pre-season.
“The team had a successful tour in Cancún and Mérida where we drew 1-1 with Inter Playa of Playa del Carmen. We did lose 1-0 to Venados of Mérida on Friday and we defeated Cancún FC 1-0 on Saturday.”
“The team is well oiled and we even impressed the Mexican clubs, these are all professional clubs in the expansion league, one tier below the Liga MX,” said Frazer.
Verdes is getting ready both for the Premier League of Belize kickoff and their participation in the Scotiabank Concacaf League against Platense. The first game in the Concacaf League preliminary round is set for the FFB Stadium next Wednesday, July 26, and the return match at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador exactly one week later on Wednesday, August 3.
