Canefield and cane loader destroyed by fire in Orange Walk; police say arson

By Benjamin Flowers: A sugarcane field and a cane loader were destroyed in the Orange Walk district this week, in what police are treating as a case of arson.

Fifty-nine-year-old Magdaleno Efrain Zetina told police that around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, he had finished harvesting and parked the loader in a bushy area in the canefield of Roger Tolosa in the Honey Camp area.

Zetina said that when he returned to the field on Thursday, July 21, he found the field burned and the loader, which was valued at $75,000, destroyed by fire.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
