By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: A trade delegation from Taiwan visited the jewel and met with Government officials from July 13 to 17, 2022. The purpose of the economic and business cooperation mission was to explore opportunities for boosting bilateral trade and investment and jointly tackling the issue of plastic waste.
Belize could be a hub for Taiwan investors seeking other markets in the Caribbean, Focus Taiwan reports.
The Taiwan Embassy in Belize noted that Augusto Liao, executive director of the Central America Trade Office (CATO) engaged in several rounds of trade talks that included a proposal to link Taiwan seafood companies with Belize seafood farmers.
In addition, the delegation met with representatives of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change and discussed sustainable business practices in the seafood industry including the recycling of plastic waste.
Taiwan and Belize have enjoyed strong bilateral relations since 1989.
