By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Extension Officer Miguel Huertas conducted a beekeeping seminar for 30 Orange Walk beekeepers at the Yo Creek Agric Station in Orange Walk on Friday.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise said the seminar was held after the Orange Walk beekeeping community requested more training following a recent set of workshops held with experts from Mexico as part of the Mexico-Belize Technical and Scientific Cooperation Program.
At the time, a number of beekeepers were unable to attend so they asked Huertas to organize one for them. He kindly complied with their request, said MAFSE.
Huertas guided the 30 participants through topics such as Bee Biology, Equipment, Products from the Beehive, and Apiculture as a business.
They also reviewed Belize’s beekeeping history and Belize’s beekeeping status.
