By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Sayab Farmers Group of San Antonio in the Cayo District on Friday morning became officially registered as Belize’s newest cooperative under the name Sayab Farmers Co-operative Society Limited, according to the Belize Department of Co-operatives and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
“Sayab Farmers Co-operative, a vegetable production group in San Antonio, Cayo District, today received their official registration documents in a short ceremony where Minister Jose Abelardo Mai was present to witness and declare the new Co-operative officially registered,” said the Ministry.
During the registration ceremony, the new cooperative’s chairman Cesar Mesh presented Minister Mai with a Certificate of Appreciation “for your valuable contribution towards our cooperation registration”.
“The new Co-operative has existed for a number of years as a group and now takes the bold step to become an official organization with all benefits that come along with their official designation.”
The registration ceremony was organized and carried out by the Belize Department of Co-operatives at the Sayab Farms in San Antonio, Cayo District.
The Sayab Farmers Co-operative Society Limited consists of women, young people, and male farmers, according to Luis Pook, the Communications Director in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise.
