By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Belizean Flare at The Shay … Internationally Capped Forward Angelo Capello joins Town! … WELCOME Angelo ” posted English football club FC Halifax Town of their new signing: Belizean Angelo Capello.

Capello recently joined the ranks of FC Halifax Town, who play in the Vanarama National League in the fifth tier of English football. At Sheffield United, who play in the second tier Championship, he was at a higher level, but was not getting playing time. So, Capello expects to show himself with Halifax Town and work his way up.

Capello, who plays for the Belize Men’s National Team, had joined the ranks of Sheffield United since age 12 when he moved to England with his mother. Nephew of the Jimenez brothers, (Orlando ‘Leech’, Danny, and Richard ‘Cheetie’), Capello grew up playing football and when he moved to England one of the first things he did was to look for a football club.

“I was there from the age of 12 and then I obviously progressed through the age groups. Never really got my chance in the first team and that was a massive factor in me coming in here,” Capello said in his signing interview posted on social media by Halifax Town.

“Wanting to show people what I can do and wanting to really get my name out there and start building a career for myself.”

In reference to his Belize National Team experience, Capello said football here is different, but it contributes to his experience.

“My mum’s from there. I was born there, so obviously I got the chance to play for them in a few matches, the first team,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity. For me more than anything it’s about that experience and like I said getting my name out there. It’s something I can definitely fall back on and say that I’ve played for my national team. Well, it’s not at the highest levels where I want to be but it’s still a different style of football. So, it’s all experience for me at the end of the day which I believe I can use and help this team. So, for me it’s an opportunity.”

Capello said that playing for Belize can only continue helping him with his career, so he expects to continue wearing the national colours as long as he’s fit and able to play for Belize.

For now, Capello says he’s happy at Halifax.

“To be honest it’s a great opportunity for me and personally, like I’ve said, I’ve come in I’ve really enjoyed it. The players, the managers, the facilities, it’s all suitable for me. I just can’t wait to see what the season brings on.

The Belizean offensive midfielder said he hopes to show the fans what he can do.

“I’m really excited to show the fans what I can do. Football is nothing without the supporters, so I hope I can give fans some excitement with goals and assists,” he said.
