By Rubén Morales Iglesias: More than 50 representatives of the cruise ship industry attended a National Cruise Tourism Policy Planning Workshop organized by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) on Friday, July 22, at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel in Belize City.

At the opening, Director of Tourism for BTB Evan Tillett highlighted the importance of the workshop and informed the participants on the work of the Cruise Tourism Task Force. He said the Task Force has done significant ground work towards formulating the cruise tourism policy.

Cruise tourism is an integral part of Belize’s tourism package and is a big money earner for the industry.

“The objective of the workshop is to assess the current cruise sector trends, competitive advantages and development constraints and opportunities to determine a path forward for the next 10 years,” said the BTB.

“This policy development workshop is also seen as an opportunity for local stakeholders to provide their input in this update process, and to table what are the major priorities for cruise tourism in Belize.”
