TikTok promotes engineering and Math in China while making young people in other countries addicted to twerking

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The popular dancing app, TikTok, owned by ByteDance of China is one of the most used apps and many content creators have become ‘social media stars’ through the app.

But, did you know that in China, the popular app promotes engineering and math while in many other countries including Belize, the content that young people engage with differs?

Opindia noted that recently, Fox News journalist Tucker Carlson spoke about the content that is being promoted by the app’s algorithm in China and compared it to the content in western countries.

Carlson explained how the content differs at an extensive level and shows completely different genres to the users based on the location.

In addition, a lot of the content promotes twerking, gender-altering therapies, and even teaching children how to hide their “gender identity” from their parents.

In 2021, a report by Daily Mail noted that TikTok had been promoting gender change surgery as something “cool” among the children, and by the time that report was published, such videos were being watched over 26 billion times.

Those videos were reportedly being heavily promoted by TikTok after a deal with Stonewall, a controversial LGBTQ rights charity.

And in China, Douyin (TikTok), owned by the same company promotes videos related to technology, architecture, music, and similar interests that increase the creativity of the users and help improve their skill set.

However, there is a policy in China where government-regulated content can be shown on any platform, and any other content cannot get any desired promotions by the platform.

Meanwhile, in other countries, the app promotes content that can go viral quickly and generate revenue for the company.

During a podcast, comedian Andrew Schulz discussed how useful the content is in China and how useless content such as “stupid dances” is promoted in the West.

Several analysts note that from selling a useless product, to changing voting patterns, a platform like TikTok is capable of doing a lot of damage unless the governments come up with a strict policy to counter the app’s algorithm.
