By BBN Staff: A Belize City man who punched a hole in a plycem wall during a domestic dispute with his partner has been fined over $600.
Anthony Jasly Garcia, 29, appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was read a single charge of damage to property.
Garcia pleaded guilty to the offense and pleaded for mercy from the court. He said that he was angry at the time of the incident but intends to take responsibility and pay the complainant back for the damage.
He was fined $500 plus $5 cost of court for the offense, which he must pay by October 15 or spend months in prison for default.
He was also ordered to pay the complainant $100, the cost of replacing the wall, to the complainant and must by that charge by August 31, or the court will seize and sell off his belongings to cover the compensation.
The complainant reported to police that on Sunday, July 24, she was cleaning her kitchen when Garcia had asked her to warm up some soup for him. She refused and an argument ensued, during which Garcia punched the hole in the wall.
