International News: U.S. Government could declare Monkeypox, a national emergency

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: An official from the White House said that the U.S. Government could declare Monkeypox a national emergency if they cannot control the outbreak, Latin Post reports.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the viral disease, a public health emergency of international concern.

Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House COVID response coordinator noted that the U.S. is currently looking at a public health emergency announcement that the Department of Health and Human Services might impose.

Globally, there are more than 18,000 reported cases of Monkeypox and 3,846 cases in the U.S, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In the U.S., there is a large demand for vaccines as people are lining up outside of clinics to get vaccinated.

Health officials say that more than 300,000 doses of the monkeypox vaccine have been shipped to city and state health agencies.
