By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise, Jose Mai met Taiwan Ambassador to Belize David Kuan-Chou Chien and Taiwanese investors from Agriforward, a Taiwanese company.
They discussed collaboration and investment in Belize, said a social media post by the Ministry of Agriculture Food Security, and Enterprise (MAFSE).
“The company focuses on the production of biodegradable straw known as Tatami straw produced from a plant named 𝘓𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘢. They also focus on the production of a photosynthetic bacteria used as a biofertilizer,” said MAFSE.
The biodegradable Tatami straw is an affordable alternative to plastic straw, said MAFSE adding that Agriforward is interested in introducing the plant to Belize with the intention of producing the straw here in Belie.
“The company’s goal is to promote climate smart solutions for agriculture and tourism in Belize,” said MAFSE.
