“Security Service Cup” to be held on the weekend of August 6 in Belmopan

By Aaron Humes: They often have served side-by-side on the nation’s streets and in its remotest regions, but on August 6, it will be the Belize Defence Force (BDF) versus the Belize Police Department, at least on the football field.

Belmopan’s Isidoro Beaton Stadium will host the first-ever Security Services Cup, featuring three games teaming female, veteran and elite members of the Force against their respective comrades in the Police.

Organizers list the following purposes for the event: display and encourage national confidence in security services apparatus; promote positive male and female role modeling; boost internal morale for our officers and troops; provide a forum for the public to return support for the services of the army, police, and coast guard; showcase and include women in security forces and our servicemen and women’s families; and, to promote healthy lifestyles and activities like sports as a social rebuilding model even in the most stressful and dangerous jobs.

Prices to enter are seven dollars in advance and ten at the gate, with children under two able to attend for free. Families, especially those of servicemen, are encouraged to attend.

The action starts at 4:30 in the afternoon.
