Team Belize off to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Team Belize left the country on Tuesday to represent Belize at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, according to the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (BOCGA).

Eleven of the 13 athletes who will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England left from Belize and the United States on Tuesday afternoon.

Cyclists Alicia Thompson, Giovanni Lovell, Oscar Quiroz, Byron Pope along with Cycling Federation of Belize president Orson Butler left through the Philip Goldson International Airport along with athletes Shaun Gill, Ashontie Carr, and Ashantie Carr, and Belize Athletics Association vice president Jaheed Smith. They all arrive in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Cyclists Justin Williams and Cory Williams and track and field athletes Hilary Gladden, Brandon Jones travelled earlier from the United States to England as well and will arrive on Wednesday about an hour ahead of the contingent that left from Belize, according to Head of Mission Giovanni Alamilla Sr.

Triathlete Kian Trejo and triathlon official Giovanni Alamilla Jr arrived on Saturday, July 23, since Trejo competes on Friday, July 29.

Head of Mission Giovanni Alamilla Sr. has been in Birmingham since July 19.

Cyclist Kaya Cattouse arrives in Birmingham on August 2.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games start on Thursday, July 28 and run until Monday, August 8. The opening Ceremony will start at 8:00 pm (1:00 pm Belize) on Thursday.

Team Belize returns on August 9.
