By Aaron Humes: A further 10 thousand doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine have been donated by the Government of India, according to the Ministries of Health and Wellness and Foreign Affairs.
Belize ran out of AstraZeneca vaccine a few months ago after original donations and purchases from the COVAX scheme reached their expiration dates and had to be disposed of.
The second such donation from the Government will, Belmopan says, help to further protect our population against COVID-19 by allowing those who have not been dosed a second time or boosted to obtain them.
The vaccines will now be available at vaccination sites countrywide
The public is reminded that an unvaccinated person is 24 times more likely to suffer from severe illness and die due to COVID-19 when compared with vaccinated individuals. The Ministry of Health & Wellness, therefore, continues to remind persons, especially the vulnerable population such as the elderly, pregnant women and persons with underlying medical conditions, to protect themselves by getting vaccinated; continue to utilize a well-fitted face mask, especially in crowded indoor and outdoor areas; and practice regular hand washing and sanitizing, and social distancing.
