BREAKING: Stann Creek woman dies in cliff fall at Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary

Posted: Wednesday, July 27, 2022. 8:35 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: 35-year-old Lucero Aguirre of San Juan, Stann Creek District has apparently died following a tragic accident on a hike on Tuesday within the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Aguirre and members of her extended family numbering approximately 20 according to a source familiar with what happened, had gone out to Victoria Peak on a hike.

We are told that en route, while climbing one of the cliffs, Aguirre reportedly leaned too heavily on a rope securing the edge and tumbled over. She landed under a waterfall and sustained severe injuries, and it took some time to rescue her.

Aguirre died while being transported to the Southern Regional Hospital. She owned a business and was recognized for her community and church work, and those who knew and loved her are reportedly in shock at her sudden passing.

We understand that the matter is now under investigation.
