By BBN Staff: A 38-year-old Belize City man is out on bail after being accused of stealing his friend’s phone.

Thirty-eight-year-old John Burke appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with a single count of theft.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was offered bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which he met.

Burke is due back in court on September 19 in relation to the matter.

The complainant, 40-year-old Gavin Arnold, told police that on Sunday, July 24, Burke asked to borrow his phone to send a text message. Arnold said that after some time had passed he asked for his phone back and Burke replied by asking “Which phone?”

Arnold then made a report to the police and Burke was arrested and charged.
