Tracy Taegar Panton calls out Louis Wade over “p*ssies and wussies comment”

By Benjamin Flowers: Albert Division Area Representative Tracy Taegar Panton is calling out Plus TV owner Louis Wade over sexist comments he made regarding his appointment to the People’s Constitutional Commission.

Wade, an evangelical pastor, allegedly said on his morning talk show this week, “Nation building is for giants, not for pussies and wussies.”

Following Wade’s comments, Taegar Panton challenged Wade, reminding him that women represent 50 percent of Belize’s population and 50 percent of the country’s voting block.

“The last time I checked our women serve as the backbones of our political systems; the cornerstones of our communities; and the hearts and stronghold of the Belizean Family. I am of the view that a public apology is in order for the fraudulent slip of the tongue,” Taegar Panton said.

Wade’s appointment as media representative on the People’s Constitutional Commission has been the subject of debate since the announcement last week.

LGBT activist groups issued a statement calling on the media to reconsider Wade’s appointment, due to his very public anti-LGBT stance and participation in events that promote this stance. Media colleague and Channel 7 owner Jules Vasquez also chimed in on the appointment, saying that the media may have appointed Wade, but since his calling is first and foremost to his faith in God, that the church was given a second seat on the commission.
