By Rubén Morales Iglesias: National football champions Verdes FC face Salvadoran club Platense in the Scotiabank Concacaf League on Wednesday night in Belmopan.
The match is slated for 8:00 pm at the FFB Stadium.
Verdes said Platense are bringing 300 fans and that’s not counting the number of Salvadorns who live here and will turn out to support Platense, so the national champions are exhorting Belizean fans to support them.
Tickets are selling at different outlets countrywide for $25. They will cost $30 at the gate. Verdes are also selling a package deal that includes a ticket and a jersey for $50. The club said the offer remains good until midday on Wednesday.
Verdes feature a set of seven foreigners: Mexicans Edwin Villeda Bernal, Christian Ramírez and Waldo Jiménez, Colombian Camilo Márquez Fajardo, and Argentine Facundo Garnier, and Paraguayans Luis Ibarra and Mario Narváez, a Paraguayan centre-back.
They also sport Belizean goalkeepers Woodrow West and Charles Tillett, and other Belizean players like Desmond Wade, Darrel Myvett, Jaylen Lennan, Evral Trapp, Krisean Lopez, Eldon Reneau, Jovaunn Ramos, Norman Anderson, Zion Ramos and Aaron Lopez, among others.
After tonight’s game, Verdes and Platense meet again next Wednesday, August 3, at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador.
The winner qualifies to the First Round of the Concacaf League and will face Salvadoran champions Alianza.
