By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Thursday, the Nicaraguan Government informed that it was withdrawing its approval of U.S. Ambassador nominee, Hugo Rodriguez following his criticism of President, Daniel Ortega, Reuters report.
The statement by the Nicaraguan Government comes after Rodriguez reportedly told a senate hearing that he would “support using all economic and diplomatic tools to bring about a change in direction in Nicaragua”.
The Nicaraguan Government said that Rodriguez’s comments were “interfering and disrespectful.”
“The government of Nicaragua, in use of its powers and in the exercise of its national sovereignty, immediately withdraws the approval granted to the candidate Hugo Rodríguez,” Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada said.
Moncada further added that Rodriguez should not interfere in the country’s internal political affairs.
