Mexican national pleads guilty to drug trafficking almost 9 kilos of crystal meth into Belize

By Benjamin Flowers: A Mexican national caught with smuggling almost 9 kilos of crystal methamphetamines into Belize has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Police have confirmed that Juan Pablo Cabrera Lagunas was charged at the Magistrate’s Court for Possession of Control Drugs with the Intent to Supply to Another.

He was remanded in custody until Thursday, August 4th,2022, and will be sentenced on Friday, August 5th,2022.

Reports are that, on Thursday afternoon, a joint patrol between police officers and Belize Defense Force soldiers was conducted in the Ramonal area of Patchakan Village, Corozal District when they observed Cabrera. He ran away at the sign of authorities but was apprehended shortly after. Officers conducted a search and found a total of 8,913 grams of crystal meth on him.
