By Rubén Morales Iglesias: It was a rough start for national champions Verdes who were held to a 0-0 draw by one of the three new clubs, Belize City’s Port Layola in the kickoff of the Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) Opening Season on Saturday at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
That’s the second scoreless draw in four days for Verdes who were hoping for more, particularly after dominating the Top League last season conceding only two draws throughout both the Opening and Closing Seasons.
Next week they’ll visit Orange Walk’s Progresso, but before that they travel to El Salvador on Sunday for Wednesday ‘s return match in the Scotiabank Concacaf League against Platense with who they drew 0-0 on Wednesday in Belmopan.
Port Layola will visit Benque again next Saturday to take on Benque Viejo United who tonight fell 2-0 to Altitude in Independence.
Progresso FC won their first PLB games as they shocked the Belmopan Bandits 1-0 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan a 15’ goal by Raheem Swazo.
And the San Pedro Pirates downed Dangriga’s Wagiya 2-0 at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro.
