By Rubén Morales Iglesias: England defeated Germany 2-1 at Wembley in London to win the UEFA Women’s European Championship, setting two records in the process.

With their two goals in the Women’s Euro 2022 Final, England scored 22 goals in the tournament surpassing the 21 scored by Germany in the 2009 championship.

In the Euro 2022 final, 22-year-old Ella Toone tied Germany’s record in the 62′. Lina Magull equalized for Germany in the 79’ forcing overtime.

In the 110’, Chloe Kelly netted England’s 22nd goal to claim the European Championship, the first major championship by the England women’s team and also the first major championship by any English national side since England won the Men’s World Cup in the old Wembley beating Germany 4-2.

Not only did they claim the highest number of goals in a European Championship, England also set the highest margin of victory in a UEFA Women’s Euros match by beating Norway 8-0.

Additionally, the Women’s Euro 2022 Final also set a new attendance record for any Euro Final – men’s or women’s – with 87,192 persons present.

Beth Mead won both the Player of the Tournament award and the Golden Boot for scoring six goals in the tournament, same as Germany’s Alexandra Popp. Both hold the record for most goals at a European Championship along with Germany’s Inka Grings who also scored six in 2009.
