By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, the Governor of the State of New York, Kathy Hochul declared an emergency in the state over the continued spread of Monkeypox, Reuters report.
“I am declaring a State Disaster Emergency to strengthen our ongoing efforts to confront the monkeypox outbreak,” Hochul tweeted.
According to Hochul, more than 1 in 4 Monkeypox cases in the U.S. are in New York.
The U.S. has confirmed a total of 4,906 as of July 29, there were 1,383 confirmed Monkeypox cases in New York.
Last week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency, its highest level of alert, over the Monkeypox outbreak.
