Two dead and 8 injured in mass shooting at a dance in peaceful Hopkins village

By Aaron Humes: A village party overnight in Hopkins, Stann Creek District ended in a tragic loss of life and injury including several police officers present.

A trio of gunmen invaded Wabinaha Bar just before two a.m., opening fire on the dance floor before escaping in a white Chevy Silverado vehicle.

Dead are 23-year-old Noah Moro of Silk Grass, Stann Creek District, and Honduran construction worker Emilio Garcia, 56.

Among the injured were five females and a minor, all from the Dangriga and Hopkins areas.

A trio of police officers including Superintendent Gerald Jones, and Officer in Charge of Dangriga were also injured.

The entire incident was said to have been captured on surveillance cameras inside the bar and four suspects have been named. A fifth person is in custody, suspected of being the getaway driver.

Police investigations continue.
