Belize Progressive Party offers condolences in wake of mass shooting; questions why a minor was at the establishment

By Benjamin Flowers: In the wake of the mass shooting in Hopkins Village that left two dead and eight injured, the Belize Progressive Party has come out to condemn the incident, offer condolences, and raise concerns.

The BPP issued a statement today, condemning the senseless act of violence and supporting the Belize Police Department’s efforts to bring those responsible to justice. The BPP aslo offered its condolences to the familes and loved ones of those who died as a result.

The party also took note that a 15-year-old female was injured in the incident, that took place at a nightclub at 2:00 a.m.

“This begs the question of how and why a minor was allowed to enter a nightclub,” the BPP said. “It is in this vein that the BPP calls on the Government of Belize to allocate the appropriate resources toward ensuring the public’s safety that establishments are properly monitored and held accountable for violating the law.”

The party called on all Belizeans to demand better of elected officials, which will help to serve the national interest.
