By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Sunday, Archbishop Jose Luis Escobar Alas said that Salvadorans support the measure by the Salvadoran government on the gang crackdown, LatinPost reports.
“People don’t want the violence to return… They not only want these things maintained, but they also want them to advance, to end the violence,” Escobar Alas stated.
The Archbishop also said that Salvadorans are afraid of returning to how their country was before with the surge in gang violence.
Meanwhile, several critics say that the State of Emergency and measures by authorities have violated human rights.
Several organizations have called on the Salvadoran government to respect the dignity and human rights of those detained.
But, a survey showed that 70% of Salvadorans agreed with the Government’s measure.
