By BBN Staff: Catholic Bishop, Most Reverend Lawrence Nicasio, gave a rare update via Guadalupe Media informing that he had recently undergone surgery to remove a blockage of the colon, which was later found to be cancerous.
“I left Belize on the 6th of July with the intention to seek medical attention. I was admitted at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, one of the Catholic Hospitals in the area. A CT scan was performed and the results showed a blockage of the colon. Within a few days, and following medical advice, I underwent surgery to remove the blockage. The surgery was carried out on the 21st of July and it was successful. The blockage was removed, however, it was found to be cancerous. As a consequence, further treatment is necessary which is scheduled to begin soon,” Bishop Nicasio wrote.
The Bishop says he is now recovering at a nearby home for retired priests and is hopeful he can begin treatment there and then continue treatment in Belize. “I hope to return to Belize soon,” Bishop Nicasio expressed.
Fathers Noel Leslie, Amelio Chi, and Jordan Gongora are handling business matters related to the Bishop’s office in his absence.
“Your prayers and encouragement have constantly strengthened me and I know I can count on your prayers and support as I continue to receive treatment. Please know of my prayers for you. May Almighty God continue to bless you now and always,” Bishop Nicasio concluded.
Breaking Belize News also wishes to express its support for Bishop Nicasio and wish him well in his recovery and treatment.
