Belize make a final bid at U-23 Women’s Central American Volleyball Championship against Nicaragua on Wednesday

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize make a final bid to close off with a second victory when they face Nicaragua on Wednesday at the U-23 Women’s Central American Volleyball Championship.

It’s been sailing against very strong winds at the regional tournament at the Jorge Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Team Belize find themselves in sixth place with a 1-4 record after falling in a tight five-set game against El Salvador on Tuesday. Prior to that, Belize had lost to Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras after opening with a convincing 3-0 win over Panama.

Today’s match against Nicaragua at 4:30 pm not only gives Belize the possibility of finishing with two wins but also gives out=r team the probability of moving up at least a spot in the standings.

Honduras, who closed Wednesday’s activities with a 3-0 win, will face perennial champions Costa Rica in the final encounter on Wednesday and the winner will emerge as the new U-23 Central American champions. Both go into the final match with perfect 5-0 records.

Honduras hold the top spot with a 5-0 record. Costa Rica, with a similar record, are second. Guatemala (3-3) are in third place, Nicaragua (2-3) are fourth, El Salvador (2-3) follow in fifth, Belize (1-4) are sixth, ahead of Panama (0-5) in seventh.
