By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, Dr. Candice Pitts moderated the panel, “Financial and Technical Cooperation for Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change, Sustainable Rural Development, and Gender Equity,” at the conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of Taiwan joining Central American Bank of Economic Integration (CABEI) and the 1st anniversary of CABEI’s offshore office in Taipei, Taiwan.

A statement from the Embassy of Belize in Taiwan said that Ambassador Pitts highlighted some of the concerns regarding gender equity in Central America, and Belize in particular, and explored CABEI’s and TaiwanICDF’s preexisting and proposed projects for economic and technical assistance for climate change, rural development, and gender equity in the region, and specifically Belize.

The panelists included Ruben Avila, the Green Project Analyst at CABEI Partnerships and International Cooperation; Michael Wen, the Executive Vice President of Cathay United Bank; and Alex Shyy, the Deputy Secretary General at International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF).

Ambassador Pitts thanked CABEI, TaiwanICDF, and Cathay Bank for their interest in the region, particularly in Belize, and hoped that the good and meaningful work will continue.
