By Rubén Morales Iglesias: COVID-19 vaccinations for children five to 11 years of age have slowed down considerably due to the end of school year, said the Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard.

Speaking on the Love FM Morning Show on Wednesday, Minister Bernard said the vaccination drive for children was proceeding well but the closure of classes has caused a drop in the number of vaccinations.

“We’ll continue to push forward to see that our young children are vaccinated,” said Minister Bernard.

“It’s a very low percentage coverage so far. Now that we’re out of school, we’re going to look with Dr Beer how we can get more mobile clinics into the different areas in the municipalities, so that parents can have access, because there’s still that mindset that people don’t want to go to the hospital. That’s why I think the uptake has been very slow. It was working very fine when students were in school, in classes, so that we could have access through the Ministry of Education.”
