Drug runners in the south manage to evade police

Posted: Wednesday, August 3, 2022. 10:05 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Suspected drug runners managed to evade police detention over the weekend, leaving behind nothing but the charred remains of an aircraft.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams said that authorities were actively tracking two suspected drug planes late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, and one of them landed about 6 miles away from Crique Sarco Village.

Williams said that the Quick Response Team that was in Hopkins Village, went after the drug plane and was joined by Belize Defense force Soldiers. The team went into the Dolores area, where they discovered the plane.

“They went into the area. They conducted searches, and the burnt remains of the plane were found. A search was conducted of the area, and up to yesterday and so far, we have not been able to locate anybody nor the cargo we believe that came in the plane,” Williams said.

There was a confirmed narco plane landing on June 30, and several suspected landings in the month of July though many of them remain either unconfirmed or were simply rumors.
