Five people being sought in connection with Alrick Smith’s murder; vehicle used in crime found burned

By Benjamin Flowers: Police are searching for five people in connection with the July 28 murder of known street figure Alrick Smith.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams said that police are exploring two possible motives for Smith’s murder, the first is that he was murdered by his own people in an internal gang struggle, and the second is that he was murdered by a rival gang in retaliation for a previous shooting.

“At this time we are looking for three persons in particular, and those persons are from the PIV area, and we’re also looking for two persons who are from the Backaland area,” Williams said. “Those two different groups of persons we are looking at will be in respect to the two different angles we are pursuing at this time.”

Williams also confirmed that the burnt remains of the SUV believed to be the getaway vehicle had been found on Monday in an area off the John Smith Link Road. Williams said police are actively engaging with other authorities to determine who owned the vehicle.

Smith was ambushed coming out of Love FM and shot several times, dying on the spot.
