Migrants living in Belize can now apply for Amnesty 2022

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, Amnesty 2022 was officially declared open by Ramon Cervantes Jr., Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration.

An opening ceremony was held at the Belize Amnesty Registration Center in Belmopan. 

Migrants residing in Belize illegally or who are recommended asylum seekers, and fit the eligibility criteria now have an opportunity to apply under the program.

Following a thorough application process, which includes police background checks, those who qualify for the amnesty will be offered permanent resident status with a path to citizenship.

The application period began on August 2, 2022, and ends on November 30, 2022.

The processing period runs from December 1, 2022, to May 31, 2023.
