By Benjamin Flowers: The proprietor of Wabinaha Bar and Night Club in Hopkins Village, Stann Creek District, has been officially charged with two offenses following the mass shooting that took place at the establishment early Sunday morning.
Police announced today that 69-year-old Bernard Franklin Nunez was officially arrested and charged with admitting a person under 18 years of age and failing to provide a male and a female security guard.
Police Commissioner Chester Williams confirmed on Tuesday that Nunez had hired civilians to act as security personnel, but that those hired were not vigilant. A 15-year-old female minor made her way into the establishment and was later among those shot during the mass shooting.
The lack of security and lack of emergency exit were regarded as two of the major factors contributing to the incident, which left two dead and eight people, including three police officers, with gunshot injuries.
