Posted: Thursday, August 4, 2022. 11:51 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, the Guatemalan Ministry of Health confirmed their 1st case of Monkeypox, Prensa Libre reports.

The patient is a 31-year-old man who lives in Guatemala City. His test results returned positive for the viral disease.

In addition, 3 more cases are under investigation by the health officials.

Health officials are monitoring the patient’s condition.

He is recovering at home.

“This is a disease that is transmitted by direct or indirect contact with blood, body fluids, skin lesions, mucous membranes, or with material contaminated by the virus,” the Ministry of Health stated.

The authorities are advising the public to take preventative measures to protect themselves and their families.

These include wearing masks, constant hand washing, disinfecting spaces, avoid contact with bodily fluids of people with skin lesions (hugs, massages, mouth-to-mouth kisses, mouth-to-skin, and sexual contact).
