Man accused of sexually assaulting a minor granted $20,000 bail

By BBN Staff: A San Pedro resident currently at the Belize Central Prison for sexually assaulting a minor was granted bail today in the sum of $20,000 plus two sureties of $10,000 each.

Thirty-four-year-old Crustel Delgado had his bail application heard virtually in the Supreme Court today before Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft.

Delgado’s bail comes with the condition that he signs in at the police station four days a week and he cannot be seen around or in the company of any child. He must also keep a minimum of 100 yards from the complainant.

Delgado was officially charged with assault of a child under the age of 16 by penetration.

He was accused of inserting his fingers into the child’s vagina, twice, on July 18, 2022. Two days after the incident, the child in the presence of her mother made a report to the police and a subsequent medical examination confirmed that the child had been carnally known.

He was denied bail in the first instance and remanded to the Belize Central Prison, awaiting his Supreme Court bail. He is due back in court on September 28.
