By Aaron Humes: The Police Department’s sub-formation in Placencia on Thursday received a donation of a golf cart from the owner of Mariposa Beach Resort, Lewis Blanchard, to assist them in patrolling the tourism strip and in community policing.
Assistant Superintendent of Police and commander Alma Mortis commended the latest donation and Mariposa’s commitment to helping the cops in the popular tourist destination: “…in the past year, Mariposa has donated equipment, school supplies for community services, meals for officers on many holidays, hosted events supporting officers, and helped landscape the Police Department. Additionally, when we needed help in having the speed bumps in the area painted, they purchased the yellow traffic paint and their staff handled painting the speed bumps throughout the area. We are very blessed to have Mr Lewis’ assistance and the entire team from Mariposa.”
“Businesses should be a part of the community as we are all one community and therefore, we help whenever possible” stated Blanchard. “We have an amazing team that loves to pitch in and help the community and awesome guests that participate in our Pack for a Cause program bringing school supplies for children and smoke detectors for seniors and others in need.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Mariposa’s staff has also provided services and medical equipment to the Placencia Fire Department, the Placencia Health Clinic, and Hummingbird Health Group. Additionally, the Placencia Humane Society was assisted with rooms needed for veterinarians to help take care of local animals
