By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Earlier this week, Maya Mountain Cacao Ltd exported just under 33,000 pounds of organic cacao to the Netherlands.
A report by Love FM’s Paul Mahung said the cacao was exported earlier this week.
According to Maya Mountain Cacao Operations Officer Serapio Chun, 273 bags weighing 32,760 pounds of dried organic cacao were exported. Chun said this week’s shipment is the fifth export in 2022.
The cacao that is on its way to the Netherlands was purchased during April and May from 385 cacao producers from 28 communities in Toledo and Stann Creek. These producers, Chun said, are members of the Maya Mountain Producers Network. He added that Maya Mountain buys year-round and encouraged other cacao producers to sell to Maya Mountain.
Mahung said Maya Mountain has exported about sixteen tons of cacao to the European market.
Maya Mountain Cacao is located 13.5 miles out of Punta Gorga on the road to San Antonio.
