Ladyville bar owner, Vanessa Gomez, shot dead during apparent robbery

By Aaron Humes: Police have confirmed that 35-year-old Vanessa Acevedo Gomez, owner of Cocktail bar on Perez Road in Ladyville, was shot dead this morning while closing up her business.

A police statement says that according to an eyewitness at the scene, one armed man in a red hooded sweater entered from the side gate at the back of the property just after midnight and demanded that Acevedo give him anything she had.

But before she could do so, the hooded man pulled out a firearm and apparently shot Acevedo once in the chest, then took a bag she was carrying and fled.

Acevedo was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Police are investigating.
