Funeral in San Ignacio on Sunday for Big-H and Ruta Maya founder Orlando Harrison

Posted: Sunday, August 7, 2022. 12:24 pm CST.

By Hugh O’Brien: A businessman at heart, a pioneer by nature, Orlando Harrison will be laid to rest in San Ignacio today, Sunday.

The Harrison family has informed that funeral services are being held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 8th, at the Sacred Heart Church in San Ignacio.

Harrison died suddenly on Thursday, August 4th, after he was feeling ill and was rushed to the San Ignacio hospital.

A few years ago Harrison was diagnosed with Diabetes. Not long after, he started having kidney issues as a result of complications caused by Diabetes and had to be placed on dialysis; clearly he was not doing well health wise.

As a result of his health situation, Orlando Harrison became an advocate on kidney disease, dialysis and health. He took to Facebook on July 28th saying “Sometimes we feel invincible and abuse of the privileges God bestow on us. Best we follow the physicians recommendation for a check up every six months and know your health status.”

Despite his health challenges, Harrison’s passion to persevere in life and venture into new businesses was undaunted.

Orlando Harrison is the founder of Big-H Juices, Vida purified water, Mamita milk, and other businesses. Along with his brother Richard Harrison, who died over two years ago in a traffic accident, the Harrisons are also the founders of La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge.
