International News: Mexico President Urges Increased Effort to Save Trapped Miners

Posted: Monday, August 8, 2022. 1:17 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Mexican authorities continue their rescue operation in hopes of rescuing 10 miners in Mexico who have been trapped underground for over 3 days, Reuters report.

Large pumps are sucking water from the flooded coal mine in Coahuila.

The miners were trapped on Wednesday when their work caused a tunnel wall to collapse, triggering flooding in three wells.

Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that time is against them.

“Time is against us,” he told the families.

The relatives are keeping vigil outside the mine praying for their loved ones.

Divers from the Mexican Special Forces were also sent in to assist the efforts.

After the collapse, 5 miners managed to escape but 10 remain trapped.

Families are now hoping for a miracle.
