Prime Minister Congratulates New Community Health Workers

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Prime Minister John Briceno extended congratulations to the new community health workers who completed their training.

“My Administration is committed to meeting the needs of the people in all sectors. I congratulate the Ministry of Health & Wellness as completed training has added 37 new community health workers to serve our people in Southern Belize,” he posted to Facebook.

The Prime Minister noted that 12 new Community Health Workers will complement those already at the Punta Gorda Community Hospital.

And, 25 new Community Health Workers (CHWs) will complement the existing cadre of CHWs of the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga

“CHWs play an essential role along the provider continuum—building strong community support, increasing awareness, and helping to overcome sociocultural barriers associated with public health issues. This is important even as we battle the existing Covid-19 pandemic and Monkey Pox has been declared a world health concern,” the Prime Minister added.

The new community health workers received their certificates of completion from the Ministry on August 5, 2022.
