Posted: Tuesday, August 9, 2022. 3:02 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the National Hydrological Service issued a flood update on the rivers in Belize.

The National Meteorological Service of Belize says that rains are expected to continue tomorrow and Thursday.

According to the flood forecast, above-normal levels are expected at the Sibun River as well as on the Southern Lagoon at Gales Point Village.

Above normal levels are also expected on the Sittee River at Kendal and on the Swasey and Bladen branches of the Monkey River.

Forecasters are also watching the above-normal levels on the Deep River at Medina Bank and the Rio Grande at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South as water levels are expected to increase.

Flood levels are expected on the Moho River at Blue Creek South and Jordan and on the Temash River at Crique Sarco and the Sarstoon River.

Meanwhile, normal water levels are expected at the Rio Hondo, the New River, and the Macal and Mopan Rivers.

BECOL facilities are expected to remain below the spillways; and at San Ignacio, levels are expected to remain below the low-level bridge.

However, the Belize River at Double Run is expected to see increasing levels.

On the Crooked Tree Lagoon, levels are expected to remain below the causeway.
