Studies: Monkeypox can be transmitted in 3 ways

Posted: Wednesday, August 10, 2022. 3:26 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Health experts around the world continue to advise the public about the Monkeypox viral disease.

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that there are now 31, 800 cases. In the United States, there are 9,492 cases of Monkeypox.

Studies show that the virus can be transmitted in 3 ways — through direct contact with an infected person’s skin rash; by respiratory droplets spread when someone coughs or sneezes, and by touching contaminated surfaces or objects.

Yahoo reports that the 3 transmission behaviors have been classified as high, medium, and lower risk.

The high-risk way that someone can get infected is through skin-to-skin contact with lesions through sexual intercourse, cuddling, and kissing.

However, those that live in the same house as an infected person can also contract the disease.

Respiratory droplets can pass between people in face-to-face situations in a more medium-risk behavior.

Other lower transmission behaviors include sitting on public transportation, sitting in an office, and going to school.
