British High Commission highlights Chevening scholar, Randall Sheppard

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, the British High Commission in Belize highlighted Chevening Scholar, Randall Sheppard.

Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships program. The program is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organizations.

Emerging leaders who show the potential to inspire, inform and influence positive change are given the opportunity to study at a UK university to gain a UK educational qualification.

Sheppard is an Attorney-at-Law currently working as Assistant Solicitor General in the Attorney General’s Ministry practicing his legal specialty and passion — legislative drafting.

Randall who hails from Belize City attended E P Yorke High School where he excelled as a student, athlete, and young leader. His sport of choice was volleyball and he served both as class president and student body vice president during his time there.

At St John’s College Junior College he pursued studies in physics and literature.

Realizing his firm interest in practicing law, he decided to take a second Associate’s degree in paralegal studies enabling him to attend the University of the West Indies in the Caribbean where he earned his Bachelor of Law.

Thereafter, Sheppard went on to his practical training at the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica.

While at Norman Manley, Randall earned the honor of representing this institution at regional and international mooting competitions. He completed his legal training at Norman Manley Law in June of 2013, with Principal’s Honours, and thereafter furthered his studies by completing a Master of Law in Legislative Drafting in May of 2016 at the University of the West Indies.

Sheppard has, for the past 8 years been applying his talents to enhancing the laws of Belize.

As a Chevening Scholar, Sheppard will be attending Swansea University, where he will be pursuing a Master of Arts in Public Policy.
