Watchman shoots himself during apparent robbery attempt

By Benjamin Flowers: A Cayo watchman shot himself with a licensed firearm during an apparent robbery attempt today.

Police say that 21-year-old Fabian Arnoldo Sagastume was admitted to the Western Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg.

He told police that while he was at work, two men in a white pickup truck drove up and one of them pointed a gun at him from inside the vehicle.

Sagastume jumped up to brandish his own firearm, when it went off and the bullet ricocheted, hitting him in the leg. His attackers drove off at the sound of the weapon, without further incident.

Police are investigating.
