21 students awarded ‘I Am Belize’ scholarships for new school year

Posted: Friday, August 12, 2022. 11:48 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: This morning, 21 young Belizeans begin a new school year with the support of scholarships through the “I Am Belize” scholarship program.

Prime Minister John Briceño, whose office continues to hold responsibility for the RESTORE Belize program, says that with more tough days than most, especially due to COVID and unrelenting violence of all kinds, he savors days like this, when he can witness young people defying the odds and making the choice to contribute their country with their education.

He encouraged recipients to maintain their “can-do” spirit and seek out the support of their families and communities regardless of their dreams.

The scholarships are sponsored by corporate firms Atlantic Bank Limited, Atlantic Insurance Company, state-owned utilities Belize Electricity Limited and Belize Water Services Limited, and non-governmental organizations Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust, Development Finance Corporation, and United Nations Development Program.
