Belize City man pleads guilty to 2017 murder of Jermaine Franklin

Posted: Friday, August 12, 2022. 9:11 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Thirty-year-old Kashief Gallego is now awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty today to the 2017 murder of Jermaine Franklin in Belize City.

Gallego, who was represented by attorney Erin Alexis Quiros, appeared before Justice Susan Lamb answering to a charge of murder.

He wasted no time in pleading guilty, maintaining how he handled the situation since his arrest.

On June 21, 2017, sometime after 6:30 p.m. Franklin was in Teddy’s Music, a DVD/CD store on King Street, when Gallego saw him. Gallego entered the store under the guise of being a customer and then fired several shots at Franklin.

Franklin exited the store but fell to the ground due to his injuries. Gallego then stood over him and fired several more shots.

Gallego was arrested the day after the incident and he confessed to the crime as well as positively identifying his victim.

“”Yesterday, I saw him at Teddy’s and I took it personal. There was no one behind the motive, it was personal between me and him. This is all I want to say,” Gallego told police.

His sentencing hearing has been set for September 23.
